The Flying Dutchman Hildenborough arrived at the Blackpool pro-am national golden 8 ball pool event with much excitement. The level was incredibly high and on the first day of round robins, they succumbed to 2 narrow losses and a draw which sent them into the bronze event.
Day two saw the Dutch Men drawn against Pete’s Smile and was chosen to be shown on the streaming table. This added pressure did not put the Dutch Men off as they raced into a 3-1 lead with a great clearance from the junior of the team, Martin Thomas. With more good frames by all, including a clearance off the break, Matt’s Dutch Men won the match 7-5 and were into the last 16.
In the last 16 they got off to a good start and maintained their lead. However their opponents clawed their way back and led 6-5, first to 7. After a tight frame won by Martin Thomas the match was going to a penalty blackball shootout. Unfortunately Matt’s Dutch Men narrowly missed out, losing the shootout 2-1. All in all a very good weekend of pool with some great stats from the players, notably Matt Meads (6/15), Martin Thomas (4/9), Chris Ireland (4/15), and Ian Thomas (12/14).
It was a great weekend of pool, some big scalps, and lots of lessons to take back and do better next time.
The team were sponsored by Ivor Thomas, and we would like to say well done for doing so well in the tournament.
